GUIDE TO HIRING PERSONS WITH
DISABILITIES FOR SASKATCHEWAN EMPLOYERS
ALL WAYS WELCOME Through a combination of humorous and serious scenarios this video explores the stereotypes and prejudices experienced by people with disabilities. Excellent for all ages and for both schools and workplaces.
FOCUSING ON ABILITY This video gives real life examples of technology used in the workplace by persons with severe disabilities.
PLAYING IT STRAIGHT This video candidly explores misconceptions held by employers and job seekers about employing people with disabilities. Vignettes illustrate potential problems, followed by demonstrations of positive ways to handle them. Specific topics include communicating in an interview, workplace modifications, employer attitudes, supervision and discipline.
THE IMPOSSIBLE TAKES A LITTLE LONGER This National Film Board of Canada video gives an inspiring picture of how 5 resourceful physically disabled women overcame barriers in their personal and work lives. The video dispels stereotypes and emphasizes the importance of patience, resilience and imagination in adapting the regular tasks of life to special needs. As well, it informs women with disabilities of the possibilities that changes in the workplace, technological aids and support systems can open up for them.
VIEWPOINTS Viewpoints is a 15-minute video that explores the real life experiences of four people with physical disabilities. It provides practical suggestions for breaking down the many physical and attitudinal barriers people with disabilities face. Recommended for all audiences.
WORKING IT OUT A complementary program to Playing It Straight, this video concentrates on individuals with disabilities getting and keeping jobs, with advice for business owners and employees about attitudinal pitfalls and double standards. Dramatic scenes and commentary cover issues like overcompensation by employers and employees, supervision, discipline and dismissal, overcoming stereotypes and co-worker relations.
WORKING PEOPLE This video is a powerful tool for showing unions why supported employment makes sense. A complementary manual -- Working People: Labour Unions and Supported Employment -- will help you create win-win scenarios for the union, employer and the employee with a disability. It explores issues like the need to restructure or modify jobs, productivity assessment, access to union membership and dues payment, job coaches and modifying minimum qualifications for job entry.
WORKING TOGETHER: AN INTEGRATED WORKFORCE Recommended for both employees and employers, Working Together examines the many advantages of integrating people with disabilities in the workplace. Using real-life examples, this 20-minute video shows how employees with disabilities, co-workers and employers all benefit from an integrated work environment. DISCRIMINATION - (GENERAL)
